About the Artist

Hello, I'm Mindy Berg

Thank you for your interest in my work! I am a lifelong artist and equestrian, and I am thrilled to be a part of this hobby. I have a bachelors degree in Liberal Arts, and have years of experience teaching horseback riding lessons and horse training. When I discovered the model horse hobby, I was delighted to combine both areas of my lifelong passions into one being, which is creating the most dynamic and lifelike model horses I can. I constantly push myself to achieve greater and greater accuracy with my artwork and customization, and I believe that my passion for both the arts and the equine show through in my artwork. For me it is the perfect union.

Passion for Horse & Brush

I grew up in Connecticut, in the heart of the hunter-jumper horse country. When I was a child, I was considered horse crazy, and found myself drawn to the horse, riding and being around them as much as I could. When I moved to Vermont, I was introduced to centered riding, which focuses on body awareness, and Natural Horsemanship, which is effective communication with your horse by setting them up to succeed in the tasks you put before them. Merging the two disciplines, I created a successful riding and training program.

When I was pregnant with my daughter, and unable to ride, I longed for an outlet involving horses and discovered the model horse community. When I found it, I was blown away by the degree of accuracy in the model horses, and vowed that one day I would paint horses in a similar fashion. It was an epiphany for me to see fine art and model horses merged, and I knew at that moment that I had found the perfect niche for myself; I could not have created nor manifested a career more suited for my soul then painting horses in this way. Being a lifelong artist, this was an easy transition and fun challenge for me to focus my talents into learning how to bring a model horse to life. I still enjoy learning new techniques and creating each horse to be a unique embodiment of spirit of the piece. Since every horse is painted by hand using layer after layer, I spend time with every sculpture, and do my best to enhance the natural qualities of each piece. My goal is a finished horse that is harmonious, with color looking natural and true to life.

Spruce Mountain

I live in the mountains of Vermont with my daughter, and enjoy the panoramic view of the green mountains that surround my house. Spruce Mountain is the closest peak to my house, which I view out my studio window. The beauty of the mountains inspire me. Currently I do not own a horse, but continue to ride at the local stable. In the past, I have owned and trained a variety of breeds such as the Tennessee Walking horse, Friesian, Quarter horse, Arabian, Appaloosa, PMU rescue foals and others. My daughter has the horse bug as well, so I may be adding a pony to that list soon : )
